This blog has been a while in the making... not sure if another will make an appearance or I will say all that I want to say in one blog.
The short of it: New York was amazing. I'm so glad that I went and experienced it and I will definitely go again.
It was incredibly difficult choosing which pictures to share; I'm no photographer and honestly I don't have the patience for good photography. I'd much rather just soak in the experience than be bothered with taking pictures; I know, that's an odd trait for and NNer

. I do have a journal full of experiences that I will always treasure though.
Day 0.5: This day was mostly hell.
It was a beautiful Wednesday morning, the promise of a sunny day glinted through the clouds, and I was awake way too early after a generous estimate of three hours of sleep. I was pretty nervous about the flight there. It had been about 5 or 6 years since I’d last been on a plane and I wasn’t sure how I’d fit; I’m all ass as you can tell from my pics… A short flight, stressful transfer, and a pleasantly seat mate-less flight to my final destination later, I found myself in…. Newark! That was the friendliest airport I’ve ever been to and the only reason I was able to get to Manhattan was because there are tonnes of folk ready to help lost tourists.

It took me a while to get from Newark to Manhattan but I made it. My friend and I went for a drink but I was exhausted and went to bed shortly after that.
Day 1: First full day in the Big Apple
The first full day that I spent in NY was, of course, great and jam packed. After breakfast and coffee we wandered into Times Square. That place is unbelievable busy! There are people trying to sell you stuff all over the place, unfortunately the cameras and moderate walking pace set us apart as tourists. I'm not a particularly big fan of people approaching me in the street so it was a bit stressful. I would have preferred to be sitting off in a corner watching other people be approached

. After popping into the Disney store, we somehow ended up at a gelato shop called Grom; my friend who took a semester in Italy insists that it is authentic and that there are very few locations outside of Italy. I didn't really care, it was delicious and that was the most important thing! If you ever find yourself in NY and want some gelato, I do highly recommend it. You will then find yourself on the south western (I would double check that navigation were I you) side of Central Park where you can stroll and eat your gelato

. Central Park is HUGE. Apparently people will pay $3 per minute to be driven around on a bicycle. I think what I loved most about Central Park was that it is a nature sanctuary in the middle of bustling city. It's free, spacious, easily accessible by transit, full of all kinds of people... just beautiful. That night we went to the Gershwin Theatre and watched a production of Wicked. It was a great performance and fulfilled a pretty big ticket item on my "things to do" list.
